Compassion in Action

Compassion is the deep awareness of the suffering of others with the wish to relieve it. Recognize the pain and hardship others are experiencing but also strongly desire to alleviate the suffering, usually through empathy, understanding, and kindness.

Ways to put compassion into action:

  1. Active Listening - engage in loving discussion to understand without judgment.

  2. Offering a helping hand—providing support and assistance through different mediums. [Physical, emotional, practical advice.]

  3. Showing kindness - for the sake of it, not looking for anything in return.

  4. Being patient - A virtue for man is recognizing people’s struggles and difficult situations.

  5. Educating yourself—Instead of dismissing something because “you do not know,” take the opportunity to learn about others' challenges and how you can help effectively. (Learn boundaries to prevent burnout or fatigue-apathy.)

I am reminded of the Bodhisattvas, who seek enlightenment for all beings and aspire to relieve their suffering through compassion.

Let us all practice compassion towards ourselves and others.
